Hyderabad, Feb 22: At least 17 persons died and 119 more were injured in a series of blasts near the Konark theatre in the busy Dilshukh Nagar area of the city on Thursday evening. Police immediately declared Red Alert all over the twin cities and started intense checks to preempt any other attempts. Hand of terrorists is strongly suspected as the explosions occurred after the hanging of two terrorists. Police are reportedly suspecting the hand of Indian Mujahidin. It may be recalled that Lashkar-e-Taiba and Indian Mujahideen had declared when Kasab was hanged in connection with the Mumbai terror strike, that they would avenge the hanging at some place in India.
Reports said around 119 persons were injured. The injured were admitted in the Osmania, Yasoda, Care and Omni Hospitals, nearby. Doubts are being expressed that it could be a terrorist act as the temple of Sai Baba is nearby. There were explosions in the same area earlier also.
Thick smoke enveloped the area and people ran in fear in all the directions. There was also stampede as people were pushing each other and running. Reports said some were injured in the stampede.
Some years ago, terrorists targeted the Sai Baba temple in Dilsukhnagar area. Then the police concluded that the Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists were behind the act. In the earlier occasion also bombs were planted near the foot over bridge in the area. In 2007, twin blasts occurred in the Lumbini Park on the banks of Hussain Sagar and Gokul Chat in Kothi in the city killing 40 people.Click For Video
