Hyderabad, Feb 21: Union home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde who visited Hyderabad and inspected the twin blasts site in Dilsukh Nagar on Friday morning, said the states were warned by the union government in advance, suggesting that the Hyderabad blasts could have been averted if the state police had been more alert.
When asked if the blasts were due to failure of the state police, he said he could not decide it as yet.
Shinde visited the blast site along with the Governor ESL Narasimhan and Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy soon after arriving here.
Talking to the media at the Lake View guesthouse later, he said 14 persons died and 119 persons were injured in the twin blasts. He also said the condition of six of the injured was serious. He said the state government had appointed a Special Investigation Team to probe the blasts. Shinde said the union government had alerted all the states three days in advance, about such an eventuality.
When the media asked him if the blasts were due to police failure, he said he would not be able to say that as of now.
Immediately after arriving at Hyderabad, Shinde drove straight to Dilsukhnagar. He also went to hospitals and enquired about the condition of patients undergoing treatment.
The union minister interacted with top police officials and enquired about the incidents. Union Home Secretary RP Singh and National Investigation Agency officials were with him.
