Hyderabad, Feb 9: In a significant development towards Energy Conservation & Energy Efficiency (EC&EE) program launched by the State Energy Conservation Mission (SECM) and State government, world famous Badminton players Saina Nehwal and Pullela Gopichand, have given green signal to extend their unstinted support to take the energy conservation movement forward.
Enthused with the voluntary support extended by the organizations like Central Institute for Rural Electrification of Rural Electrification Corporation of India, FAPCI, FICCI, CII and NGOs like Forum for good governance, eminent environmentalist Capt. Jalagam Rama Rao, the SECM started approaching the top celebrities of national and international. As part of this initiative, the officials of SECM today met Saina Nehwal and Pullela Gopichand and explained them through a power point presentation about the scarcity of the natural resources like coal, gas and water which led to the present situation of acute power shortage in AP and impact of energy conservation activities.
The officials impressed upon them that in spite of various efforts being put up by the power utilities, there is an unprecedented power shortage to the tune of 70 MU per day even in this winter season. Though AP’s installed capacity has also reached 16,500 MW, the utilities are not able to utilize even 10,000 MW of capacity due to severe scarcity of fuel, which ultimately warrants AP to go for EC&EE measures in a big way in this critical juncture. If everyone is actively involved in this EC movement, the State is estimated to save about 15,000 MU of energy, worth of hundreds of crores of rupees, the team of SECM explained in its presentation.
