Story

The wait is finally over. Yes, the much anticipated 32 crore mega-budget bilingual film Mallanna (Kandasamy in Tamil) finally hits the silver screen with a bang. The film is already created a record opening all over with 900 prints worldwide.

The film begins with a huge crowd of people to a temple to submit their problems as petition to Lord Mallanna. As a ritual, they write their problem in a piece of paper and tie them in a sacred tree in the temple. Soon, their problems seems getting solved and the God’s name becomes popular.

The joint director in CBI Krishna starts investigating on this unnatural happenings whereas Mallanna (Vikram) is a strict CBI officer as well as a cool and straight forward guy who works under the commands of the joint director. Mallanna involves himself in a mission to uncover the black money earned by the currupted officers & politicians which are kept in foriegn banks. He soon catch the criminals who involved in these.

Soon he clashes with PPP (Ashish Vidyarthi), the man with a golden tooth and greedy heart. Mallanna conducts a raid in his palatial bungalow and finds unaccounted cash and documents of various foreign deals worth over Rs 1000 crore!
Ashish Vidyarthy is devastated after the raid and his only daughter Subbalakshmi (Shriya Saran) swears revenge and pretends to fall in love with Mallanna.

At a stage, situation exposed that both the Lord Mallanna and Mallnna are the same. But a senior official in CBI protecting Mallanna in this critical situation.

The rest of the story is about what makes Mallanna to do all these Robinhood activities? Why this senior officer protecting him? See the answer for all these interesting questions in the Silver Screen!

Performance

Vikram has done a brilliant and stunning performance in both the roles as a CBI officer as well as a Super-Hero. He also done a veriety of unique getups that mesmerize the viewers. He once again proves himself as a great actor as he really deservers for it.

Shriya Saran, playing a role with grey shades, has done here part well in this film. On her new looks, she achieved her ’size-zero’ figure in the film which were an added point to her glamour and smile. Her lip lockscene will sure get the attention.

Brahamanamdam’s comedy is poor. Superstar Krishna in the role of a CBI director  is good although he has not much to do. Prabhu as investigating officer is okay. Ashish Vidyardhi , Mukesh Tiwari justified their roles.

Technical

The director Susi Ganesan should have made the movie more intresting. He should have edit some of the boring sequences and cut the movie by 20 to 30 minutes at least.

The film is picturised with a massive CGI works and to stun the audience, the reason why the film got delayed to hit the screen. Indeed, the film is amazingly visualised to watch added with the color shades filled in different scenes. Cinematographer Ekambaram should be commended for the job.Movinstilz did a good job in VFX works. Art work by Thotta Tharani was fabulous.

Musical score by Devi Sri Prasad are good as the songs are already tops the chart. Some of the songs were picturized really well.

Producer Kalaipuli S. Dhanu spent lavishly to make this film with a huge budget of Rs. 32 Crores just keeping faith on the Director Susi Ganesan and the actor Vikram.

Analysis

After a creating a huge hype,Mallanna failed to create the magic.Mallanna is an extravagant experiment at age-old formula stories of good Samaritans robbing from rich to feed the poor. Although the subject provides a treasure trove of stories, Mallanna is largely overindulgent. After taking up a superhero subject, Susi’s uncertainty in keeping that one on track makes the movie stoop to lower levels.

The movie is unreasonably stretched, for no rhyme or reason. The choppy editing also makes one feel that any scene could be placed anywhere inside the movie. Picture this: after what one thinks to be the climax, the movie heaves for another half-hour with a comedy scene, an item number and then culminates into conclusion.

Bottom line: It is a movie with shades of Shivaji, Tagore, Aparichitudu etc.Watch it if you have nothing to do.
