Mamata angry with Cops solving Rape Case

New Delhi, Feb 21: West Bengal's two diligent cops solved a rape case and when everyone expected CM Mamata Bannerjee who will be at the forefront of solving peoples problems, she inturn scolded the cops for solving the rape mystery. Mamata speaking to media said the entire solving of the case was a "fabricated story". Detective chief Damayanti Sen and joint commissioner,

HQ, Javed Shamim stood at the Writers' Buildings rostrum on Monday and issued a clarification that no one had asked for.

Political analysts feel the Mamata was miffed that the solving of the case had proved to be an embarrassment for her and officers were made to pay the price. Both the officers were upset but clarified to media saying

"The CM has never interfered in this investigation. What is happening now is distracting us from the main issue. The groupism that is being attributed to is totally misleading and incorrect. That is what is we felt. That is why an appointment was sought,". But insiders say they were given a dressing down by Mamata and both were visibly shaken.

The case was that of Champa Sen and it all happened when the victim had alleged that the crime had taken place on February 6 and that the police sat on her report for over a week. On February 16, even as a forensic report confirmed assault on the woman, the CM said the case had been cooked up to malign her government. Transport minister Madan Mitra even went to the extent of questioning the victim's character. Cops may have back tracked but media hailed Champa Sen for fighting the insensible government headed by a woman.
