Sasikala's brother arrested

Chennai, Feb 3: Tamil Nadu police Friday arrested Divakaran, the brother of V.K. Sasikala, Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa's former confidante, following a complaint that he had demolished a woman's house in Tiruvarur district.

Divakaran was remanded to custody till Feb 16 and sent to Tiruchirapalli jail, around 320 km from here.

Police were on the look out for Divakaran after a woman called Kasturi complained that he had demolished her home last month.

The Madras High Court had dismissed his anticipatory bail earlier.

Divakaran was arrested at a vehicle checkpost near Tiruchirapalli, police officials said.

In a dramatic move last December, Jayalalithaa had thrown Sasikala out of her house. Jayalalithaa also sacked Sasikala and others close to her from the primary membership of the AIADMK party.

Jayalalithaa has maintained silence about the reason for her decision.
