New Delhi, Feb 18: Union Home Minister Chidambaram’s brain child newly constituted National Counter-Terrorism Centre (NCTC) met with strong opposition as Chief Ministers of 7 states denounced the Central Govt unilateral handling of the issue infringing on the rights of the state. Orissa CM Naveen Patnaik, Gujarat CM Narendra Modii along with Bihar's Nitish Kumar, West Bengal's Mamata Banerjee, Tamil Nadu's J Jayalalithaa, Prem Kumar Dhumal of Himachal Pradesh and Shivraj Singh Chouhan of Madhya Pradesh joined hands in a rare show of unity and took on Centre and Chidambaram’s high handedness questioning the manner in which the agency was set up, without taking states on board, and demanded that the decision be reversed.
Even former CM of AP, TDP leader Chandrababu Naidu supported them and calling for revocation of the notification setting up the NCTC with the objective of improving the country's response to the threat of terrorism. All the CMs shot a strong letter lodging their protest to PM Manmohan Singh.
