Performance

All the cast came with good expressions and emotions to create maximum impact which is the major plus point in the silent thriller. They with their body language and screen presence carried the film on their shoulders.

Technical

S.Tirru's cinematography is attractive and elevated the film to another level. Santosh Narayanan's back ground score took the film to the next level. Editing of Vivek  Harshan could have been better as there are few drags in the film.

Karthik Subbaraj should have plugged the loopholes by concentrating on making the story more powerful with twists and turns in a logical manner for a better impact. He just got carried away with the silent thriller tag. Production values are good.

Analysis

Karthik Subbaraj known for his technically brilliant and thought provoking films came with a silent horror thriller to attract movie lovers and score a hit. However, despite coming with an innovative idea to come with a silent film, he failed to come with a convincing storyline.

The film has resemblances of Bollywood film Talaash by Reema Kagti, but did not reach that level. Karthik Subbaraj lost the plot completely. He failed to connect various angles like the mercury gas leakage, poisoning incidence etc and passed time only on highlighting the human emotions. To his credit he got the best out of his cast and crew. For all the talk of the horror thriller, the film lacks thrills and twists to scare or attract viewers.

Though the film's duration is short, the first half has very few interesting moments. Once the plot is revealed at the start of the second half, interest levels goes down. Karthik Subbaraj failed to attract with his story, screenplay and direction and his execution went for a toss. For all the talk, Mercury is not completely a silent thriller as sound plays a vital role in it.

Final Talk

Mercury takes movie lovers intelligence for granted.
