Mahanati Savitri (Keerthi Suresh) gets admitted in a hospital in a pitiable condition with no one to look after. All the scribes try to dig out the sensational happenings in Savitri's life and Praja Vani chief editor (Tanikella Bharani) assigns the job of covering this news to journalist Madhuravani (Samantha) and still photographer Vijay Antony( Vijay Devarakonda).

The duo who thinks that they were assigned this inconsequential assignment due to their incompetence, find out startling incidents in Savitri's life, resulting in them turning completely emotional. To find out more about the sensational incidents in Savitri rise and fall from stardom, her golden heart, watch Mahanati on silver screen.

Keerthi Suresh who is relatively new and whom critics doubted when she was finalized for the lead role of the legendary actress Savitri, came with a superlative and stunning performance as Savitri. Except for the few scenes in which her expressions and looks artificial, she mesmerized with her captivating and stunning performance as Savirti. She carried the film on her shoulders with her expressions, emotions, body language and screen presence. Her dialogue delivery and mannerisms attracts everyone.

Dulqer Salman as Gemini Ganeshan looked apt for the role and he with his romantic look and mannerisms, proved why Gemini Ganesan is popular as Kadhal Mannan in Kollywood. The chemistry between Keerthi Suresh and Dulqer Salman is the highlight in the film.

Samantha and Vijay Devarakonda complimented each other as Madhuravani and Vijay Anthony with their performances. Shalini Pandey, Prakash Raj, Avasarala Srinivas, Malavika Nair and others lived in their roles. While NTR's role is filmed using graphics, Naga Chaitanya played the role of his grandfather ANR. However for all the hard work Chaitu did, he looked a complete misfit and the scenes along with Keerthi Suresh looked out of sync and became the laughing stock. Mohan Babu looked perfect in the role of SVR. Others performed according to their roles.

Dani Sanchez-Lopez elevated the film with his top class cinematography. He with his camera work took the viewers back to the days of Mahanati Savitri. Cinematography took the film to another level altogether. Mickey J Meyer with his background score gave thumping impact to the scenes. However songs could have been better as they failed to generate the same effect.

Editing of Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao could have been better as there are many drags in the film testing the patience of the viewers. Dialogues are powerful and impactful. Nag Ashwin could have included few more scenes on Savitri, NTR and ANR and also should have focused on Savitri's stardom more to generate more interest in the film. Production values are good.

Nag Ashwin decided to pay floral tributes to legendary actress Savitri and dared to be different from the other makers to come with a biopic, which till now other filmmaker dared even to think of in Tollywood all these years.

He should be complimented for this and those who watched the film feel that Nag Ashwin made an earnest and honest attempt. He starts off on an interesting note with Savitri getting admitted into hospital during her final stages and then goes into a flashback mode.

He generates interest with the introduction of Savitri and quickly switches off to her romantic angle with Gemini Ganeshan depicting her rise to stardom in just two to three scenes. The story sails off smoothly and with Savitri's stardom and romantic elements, first half ends with a good interval bang, with Savitri getting shock in her real life romance.

Second half turns emotional with Savitri's downfall shown in a elaborate manner. The way Nag Ashwin showcased Savitri's helping nature even in her poverty when people around her cheated, moves the hearts of all. For all the hard work, the film has more of Tamil flavor, as most of the film covers Savitri's romance and personal and professional life with Kadhal Mannan Gemini Ganeshan. This may put off, Telugu movie lovers. Story, screenplay and direction of Nag Ashwin is quite good. Over all a good attempt from the makers but it is extremely difficult for the film to taste commercial success at the box office.
