Tilak (Surya) fails to get a job in CBI as he fails to bribe the corrupt officials. Tilak decides to teach a lesson to CBI and forms a gang with Jhansi Rani (Ramya Krishna) and others.
To find out more about his love life with beautiful girl Madhu (Keerthy Suresh) and where this will lead to when honest CBI officer Shiv Shankar (Karthik) takes charge, enjoy Gang on silver screen.
Surya attracted with his stunning screen presence. After showing his power as police officer in Singam series, this time he decided to show his hilarious angle. He looked handsome and charming and came with right kind of expressions and mannerisms to make powerful impact on the screen.
Ramya Krishna impressed with her expressions and emotions. She along with Surya danced much to the surprise of all. Keerthy Suresh got limited scope and she failed to make any impact. Sathyan and Senthil's comedy did not click for most of the part.
Karthik matched Surya with his performance. However at times he looked loud and wild annoying all. Others performed according to their roles.
Anirudh Ravichander's music failed to attract movie lovers. Except for one song, none of the songs are appealing. However his background score gave Phillip to the film as it showed the 1980s backdrop in a beautiful manner. Sreekar Prasad's editing is quite good except for few glitches here and there.
Vignesh Sivan made some creative changes to the original story of Special 26 and in his enthusiasm to give more entertainment, he ended up testing the patience of the viewers. Instead he should have stuck to the original and tried to highlight the emotional content. Production values are good.
Lack of thrills
Screenplay and Direction
Comparison to the original
Lack of native flavor
Vignesh Sivan decided to show Surya in completely different angle and planned to remake Bollywood hit Special 26. Though the original has an interesting plot, Vignesh Sivan failed to generate similar interest and thrill with poor screenplay and direction.
Surya's screen presence saved the film from sinking at the box office. Even Ramya Krishna and Kartik are not utilized to the optimum. Right from the start to finish the narration sails smoothly with few drags here and here but the more important thrills missed throughout the film much to the disappointment of the movie lovers.
Gang's box office glass has only half of success tang.
