Rating: 1.5/5.0

Story

NRI Uma Shankar (Srikanth) who languishes in jail in Kankipadu, uses various means to show his power in politics. He takes on the ruling and opposition parties in the state but his methods came as a shock to all and even trouble the common people.

To find out what is the motive of Uma Shankar, enjoy Operation 2019 on screen.

Performance

Srikanth performed well in the role tailor made for him. However he came with only the singular serious expression throughout the film. Even his role is not elevated and the dialogue delivery and intensity was missing completely.

Deeskha Panth and Hariteja got limited roles while Kota Srinivasa Rao, Suman, Posani Krishna Murali performed accordingly.

Sunil sizzled in a cameo song and attracted with his dance movements. Manchu Manoj showed his power in the climax.

Other performed according to their roles.

Technical

Rap Rock Shakeel’s music did not attract anyone. Shakeel came with couple of mass fast beat songs. His background music is OK and though at times elevated the scenes, other times it turned out to be loud.

Venkat Prasad’s cinematography is average and is in sync with the story. SB.Uddhav’s editing left many drags in the film.

Karanam Babji should have worked on the story and script and included few more twists and turns before proceeding ahead with the shoot. Production values are OK.

Analysis

Karanam Babji generated interest with the title Operation 2019 bringing back memories of Srikanth’s Operation Duryodhana. Though many were under the impression that the film is a sequel, there is no connection to both. Karanam Babji starts off generating huge interest but within seconds he fails miserably coming with scenes which are more substandard than the earlier ones.

The viewers got immense torture and misery continued and it increased with each passing second. Watching serials would have been better as Babji’s story, screenplay and direction turned out to be substandard. Wonder how Srikanth agreed to this project after the 70s narration with no real twists and turns.

The film lacked emotions, expressions and what not with dialogues turning out to be routine giving torture to the core. The film is another classic example of how not to make a film as the makers failed in all the 24 crafts.
