Hyderabad : The Telangana State Assembly Budget session began on Monday morning amidst unruly scenes with Congress members tearing off the papers and throwing them in the well and Nalgonda Congress MLA Komatireddy Venkat Reddy hurling his headphone at Governor ESL Narasimhan while he was delivering his address to the joint session of the legislature. However, the headphone missile missed the Governor but hit Council Chairman Kanakamamidi Swamy Goud injuring his right eye.
With the violent incident, while the entire House was dazed at that moment, the alert Marshals rushed to the aid of the Council Chairman and shifted him to the Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital at Mehdipatnam. Overcoming the shock, the ruling party legislators trooped to the SD hospital en masse after the Governor’s Address. Later, the Governor also went to the hospital and consoled the injured Council Chairman.
Meanwhile, the State government reportedly took the incident very serious and contemplating to take severe action against the erring Congress MLA. The government is likely to initiate action against Komatireddy Venkat Reddy soon after the Houses reassembles on Tuesday morning. It may be mentioned here that Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao recently warned of serious action against those members, who tried to obstruct the Governor’s address or try to stall the proceedings in the House.
The government is likely to urge the Speaker to suspend Komatireddy for one year from the Assembly. While the visuals of Komatireddy Venkat Reddy hurling his headphone towards the Governor was recorded, but the “missile” hitting and injuring the Council chairman Swamy Goud’s right eye, was not recorded.
Komatireddy admits incident Speaking to the media later, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy told the media that the Congress party tried to lodge its protest against the Governor’s address as the latter failed to mention about the problems of the farmers.
“At this juncture, I lost my temper and rushed to the podium along with fellow Congress members. But the marshals obstructed us. In the melee, the marshals kicked me. I received injury to my leg. I also went for an X-ray test. Why the restrictions were imposed in the Assembly only when the TRS MPs were entering into the podium everyday in Parliament”, he asked.
