Atlanta NRIs celebrated Sankranthi
  Atlanta, Jan 21 : The TAMA ( Telugu Association of Metro Atlanta, www.tama.org )Sankranthi event was kicked off by "JyotiPrajwalana" by the TAMA-EC& Board - 2012 team. The President of TAMA-2012, Mr. Suresh Peddi and his team received an arousing welcome from the audience during their sworn in session. The stage was decorated with traditional banana leaves, mango leaves, sugar cane, wooden trees and many other traditional and auspicious items reminding the audience about the SANKRANTHI festive atmosphere.

The event had special attraction from India that included Comedians like UTTEJ and RAAGINI. They both entertained the audience with excellent comedy skits, jokes, Sankranthi message and performances as well. They mentioned that the Atlanta Telugu community was more united, professional, Hospitable and valued the Telugu traditions far better than those in Andhra Pradesh. The response was tremendous as audience thoroughly enjoyed all the programs which were a mix of both tradition and current trends. Youth took part in large numbers under the leadership of Tarun Kakani,-Sports and Youth secretary-2012.

Audience were enthralled by the performance of Kuchipudi dance academy’s special dance on “Sankranti paata”. Along with this famous dance schools of Atlanta like, Siva Bollywood dance, Geet-tarang, Usha music school, Aparna dance group and Gangaraju’s dance s received good applause. The event was emceed by Sandeep Nemalikonda and Akila Eechampati.

Apart from these there were many dances, both traditional and western performances by the local Atlanta talent that captivated the audience. Other activities included rangoli- Muggulapotilu, Fancy dress for kids, kite-flying, bommala koluvu, haridasu, gangiredduluto resemble the festive Sankranthi atmosphere . The Sound and ligh system was provided by Ram Durvasula, the local Atlanta talent who has mesmerized the audience with his right mix of music, sound and lighting along with all special effects.

The TAMA-2012 Literary team headed by Bala Kancharla organized cultural, literature and political trivia as entertained and educated the audience with very good questions. The audience was awarded some gift coupons for Sri Krishna Vilas Restaurant for their answers to those impromptu fun quizzes. The auditorium was completely full and the attendees exceeded the seating. Such was there sounding success of the event. Sita Vallurupalli, the Chairman of Board of Directors,TAMA-2012 has expressed gratitude to all the participants, sponsors like Paramount and Virtue groups and Telugu Community of Atlanta for having made the event a grand success. Guests were facilitated by the TAMA team2012. The event was covered by Sridhar Vakiti (photos) and Prashant Kollipara(video) and media coverage by India Tribune-Ravi Ponangi. Snacks and dinner was served by Zafraan restaurant.

As per previous officers of TAMA are concerned, Madhu Tata, Sunil Katepalli, Rajesh Jampala, King Koduru, Ravi Ponangi and many other friends were present till the end and were very helpful.

The event was covered by Asia TV net work and TV9 network. Vote of thanks was given by Vice-president Mahesh pawar. TAMA would like to once again thank everyone for making the event a grand success and gives a invitation for the forthcoming UGAADI celebrations in March.
