Indian origin man, wife killed in UK

New Delhi, Jan 12: An Indian origin man and his English wife have been murdered in Birmingham, weeks after an Indian student was killed in an apparent hate crime in Manchester.

The local police named the victim as Avatar Singh Kolar, 62, and Carole Kolar, 58. The police added that their son is a police officer, who found the bodies.

The case comes at a sensitive time when less than a month back 23-year-old Indian student Anuj Bidve was shot dead in Manchester. That is not all, on Tuesday; the police also confirmed the death of another 20-year-old Indian-origin student Gurdeep Hayer being found dead in Manchester city centre, eight days after he went missing.

Both Kolar and his wife were pronounced dead at the scene and a major investigation was immediately launched.

The police say they have no idea who the killers were or what their motives might have been. They hope that the post mortem will provide some answers. About 60 police officers have joined the investigation. Coming so soon after the death of Anuj Bidve and the death of Gurdeep Hayer in Manchester this has left the community feeling unsettled and unsure.

The police acknowledged that this would have a massive impact on the community particularly locally. It’s too soon to say that there is a pattern of Indian deaths in UK, but people are a little more watchful now.

The couple had four grown up children, two sons and two daughters, including the police officer who has not been named.
