NRI student charged with hate crime

New Jersey, Feb 9: Dharun Ravi, a 19-year-old Indian American student has been further charged with bias intimidation, invasion of privacy and hindering prosecution.

Charged earlier with using a webcam to film his roommate Tyler Clementi, kissing another male friend, Ravi is facing new charges in court.

Clementi committed suicide after he found out about the video.

The Star-Ledger reports that the judge said he caught mistakes in the hindering charges. One was a lower grade than it should have been, and two were higher.

Prosecutors are asking to upgrade the one that was too low. But the judge said it might not be fair to make Ravi pay for a mistake he caught.

Jury selection for Ravi's trial is scheduled to begin on February 21st.
