Adelaide, Jan 28: The Indian cricket team management Saturday denied reports claiming retirement of its senior players following a 0-4 Test series whitewash in Australia.

"The team management categorically denies this. Reports about senior players retiring are baseless," team manager G.S. Walia told reporters here.

He termed baseless the reports on Rahul Dravid telling some of his teammates about his immediate retirement.

Stand-in captain Virender Sehwag said the seniors themselves will take a call on hanging up their boots and they have not expressed anything so far on the matter.

"Some reports have said that senior players will retire after this series. No such thing has happened yet. This is a decision that they will take. These are rumours created by the media," Sehwag said.

India lost the fourth Test by 298 runs here for their eighth consecutive loss in overseas Tests.

The speculations on the retirement of Rahul Dravid and V.V.S. Laxman have been doing the rounds in the wake of India's dismal performance Down Under where the celebrated batting line-up failed in all four Tests. 

The big names comprising Sehwag, Dravid, Laxman and Sachin Tendulkar had an ordinary series as India could only manage to reach the 300-run mark once in eight innings.

Tendulkar averaged 35.87 in the series while Dravid and Sehwag made runs at 24.25 and 24.75 respectively. Laxman's average stood at 19.37.
