Acharya remanded to judicial custody

Hyderabad, Feb 2: Senior IAS officer and Principal Secretary Home, arrested by the CBI in the Emaar properties scam was produced before the CBI special court on Thursday and was remanded to judicial custody till February 15th. He was immediately taken to the Chanchalguda prison.

Acharya tried to stall being taken to the jail by complaining that he was forcefully discharged from the NIMS hospital, though he has not totally recovered. However, it is learnt that Judge Nagamaruti Sarma has told Acharya that the jail authorities would take care of his health.

It is a travesty of fate that Acharya has inspected the same jail as the Home secretary few months ago and was welcomed by the jail staff with salutes. When the jail staff offered to get him food from outside, he has insisted to taste the food that was being served to the jail inmates. Now the same jail staff who have saluted him had to frisk him and push him into a cell. He would have to regularly eat the same food he has tasted during his inspection, for the next two weeks.
