Hyderabad, Feb 3: According to the Assembly SC and ST Welfare Committees Chairmen, the Speaker Nadendla Manohar had agreed to install Dr BR Ambedkar statue in the Assembly premises shortly, and also made it clear that the Speaker will review the work nature of the SC and ST Welfare Committees once in three months.
Speaking to the media at CLP office here on Friday after taking charge and convening its preliminary meeting, the Assembly SC and ST Welfare Committees Chairmen Prasada Kumar and Rajanna Dora, respectively, said that they have jointly urged the Speaker to look into the issues of SC/ST Sub-Plan funds, desecration of Dr BR Ambedkar statues across the state and installation of Ambedkar Statue in the Assembly premises.
Prasada Kumar urged the Dalits to bring their problems to the notice of the Committee and said that he will strive to solve them. He said that the Committee will tour all the districts and try to solve the SCs problems.
Rajanna Dora has said that the Committee will look into the Safe Drinking Water Schemes, Implementation of Reservation, filling up of Backlog posts of STs. He said that he urged the Speaker to allot a day during the Assembly budget session to discuss the problems of tribal people and the Araku Declaration. He said that the Speaker accepted his request. Rajanna Dora said that he will strive to solve the problems of the tribal people when the Committee toured the Agency area.
SC Welfare Committee member Jupudi Prabhakar Rao has said that the Speaker has accepted to allot a day during the Assembly budget session to discuss on SC Special Component Plan funds. The Speaker also accepted to organize an awareness meeting to the 68 SC/ST MLAs on SC, ST Plan funds, he said and added that the Speaker had asked the Committee members to look into the SC/ST Atrocities Act, which, according to him, was not being implemented properly.
