Hyderabad, Feb 21: The logjam of the State Assembly continued over the issues of Telangana State and payoffs by the liquor syndicate with the TRS and TDP members stalling the proceedings for the fifth day today.
Soon after Speaker Nadendla Manohar disallowed as many as four adjournment motions moved by the Opposition parties, the TRS and TDP, as expected, stormed on to the podium and began chanting slogans.
While the TRS members persisted in their demand for a resolution in the House for a separate Telangana State, the TDP members stuck to their guns for a discussion on the raging liquor scam in the State and dismissal of tainted ministers in the affair.
The Speaker’s repeated appeals to allow the question hour to be taken up and that the members have ample opportunity to raise their demands during the motion of thanks to the Governor’s address as well during the discussion on the budget.
Minister for Legislature Affairs D. Sridhar Babu also tried in vain to make the protesting members to reason and allow the proceedings in a calm and peaceful atmosphere. The people are eagerly awaiting and watching for a healthy debate on various crucial issues, he observed and assured that the government was prepared to reply to any issue to be raised by the members during the debate.
When the TRS and TDP members continued their protests by raising slogans, an exasperated Speaker adjourned the House for the first time at 9.06 am. Though the House was adjourned for a brief period for 30 minutes, it did not reassemble for nearly two hours.
