Hyderabad, Feb 21: The state governor E S L Narasimhan has given a shock treatment to the government by sending the file on the appointment of Information Commissioners back, for reconsideration, without approving the names suggested.
According to information, the governor has asked the government to reconsider four of the 8 names suggested by the government. However which were the four names the governor has objected to, is not yet known.
There were several allegations about the way the Information Commissioners were appointed by the government. Opposition as well as Congress leaders have taken exception to the appointment of some of the commissioners who had political connections. One of the commissioners was a defeated PRP candidate in the last elections.
Objections were also raised about some serving and retired civil service officials. It may be mentioned here that Congress official spokesperson Renuka Choudary has recently said that the party High Command was studying the file and has asked the state government for an explanation.
The governor has also earlier said that he had not received the file and would take an appropriate decision when it came to him. It is being said that the governor was directed to re-circulate the file calling for reconsideration of four of the names, by the Congress leadership.
According to sources, the names of Intiaz Ahmed, Vijaya Nirmala, and Koneru Tantiya Kumari were among the four names rejected. Vijaya Nirmala was the PRP’s defeated candidate. Thantiya Kumari is the daughter of late Deputy Chief Minister Koneru Ranga Rao and is a politician. According to rules, persons with political background should not be appointed as Information Commissioners.
