Hyderabad, Feb 22: Allegation of receiving bribe from a liquor syndicate against the excise minister Mopidevi Venkata Ramana is taking serious turns. This has all the trimmings of enlarging into a caste-war. It might be a war between the BCs and Reddies.
Hurt by the leaks from the ACB about his involvement to the media and the Chief Minister’s stoic silence on the matter, Mopidevi has reportedly barged into the CM’s camp office on Tuesday and accosted him about his silence. He has questioned Kiran why he alone was being targeted.
“When my name first came out, I thought it was one of those routine things. Then also I met you and offered my resignation. You assured me that you would take care of the issue. Still ACB keeps on leaking my name. Why are you keeping quite? Why don’t you say that I am innocent? Why am I being targeted?” Mopidevi reportedly asked the Chief Minister.
“Cool Ramana Cool! You are upset. Just cool down. There will be debate on the liquor issue in the Assembly. Then you clarify your stand. I will also speak out then,” the CM is reported to have told Ramana. Ramana is said to have threatened the CM that he would wait till Thursday when the debate was due in Assembly and quit both the cabinet and the party of he did not get support from the CM.
Ramana is also believed to have expressed his dissent that the name of one Reddy minister from Khammam district was deleted from the ACB report at the instance of the CM.
Meanwhile, BC associations are terming the allegations against Ramana to be an assault by the Reddy community on BCs. The Chief Minister would do well by clarifying facts, before a large-scale caste war erupted.
