Hyderabad, Feb 22: Eleven TRS members were suspended from the State Assembly for two days for continuously stalling and disrupting the proceedings in the House for the sixth consecutive day today.
Soon after the Speaker Mr. Nadendla Manohar disallowed the Adjournment motions given notice by the opposition parties including one on the need for passing a resolution for a separate state of Telangana, the TRS members stormed onto the podium and began chanting slogans in support of their resolution for a Telangana state.
The TDP members also holding placards stood up at their respective4 seats and demanded the tabling of the ACB report on the raids conducted on liquor syndicates. The MIM members also stood up and pressed for their adjournment motion to be taken up.
The Speaker appealed to the protesting Opposition members to cooperate in the smooth conduct of the business and repeatedly advised them to resume their seats. While the TDP and MIM members heeded to the advice of the Speaker, the TRS members continued their protest and slogan shouting near the podium.
The Minister for Roads and Buildings Mr. Dharmana Prasada Rao reminded the members that during the last five working days, not a single question was taken up nor any debate on the motion of thanks to the Governor’s address. The people outside are keenly watching the happenings in the House and continuously disrupting the proceedings would send wrong signals to them and also the credibility of political parties would be undermined, he pointed out and appealed to the TRS members to allow the proceedings to commence.
When the TRS members did not heed to the requests of the Chair and also the minister, the Speaker adjourned the House at 9.12 am for half an hour. However the 30-minute break dragged on for nearly two and half hours, and the House reassembled at 11.30 AM. Since there was no respite in the pandemonium created by the TRS members despite repeated requests by the Speaker, the Minister for Roads and Buildings moved a motion for suspending the 11 TRS members for persistently disrupting the proceedings in the House.
The Speaker made a last minute effort to appeal to the TRS members to resume their seats and participate in the proceedings, but when it had no impact the motion was adopted by a voice vote.
The TRS members insisted for a voting on the motion, but their pleas were rejected. The marshals entered and evicted the 11 suspended members from the House, and some of them were bodily lifted and carried out.
The CPI and BJP members expressed their strong protest over the government’s attitude in not heeding to the demand for moving a resolution on the T state and instead resorting to the suspension of the TRS members, and staged a walk out.
When the Speaker allowed the Finance Minister Mr. Anam Ramnarayana Reddy to respond to the demand raised by the MIM in their adjournment motion notice, the Deputy Leader of the TDP Mr. Ashok Gajapathi Raju reminded the chair that his party too had moved an adjournment motion, and the government should responded in the same manner. The Speaker assured that the government would respond appropriately at an appropriate time.
