Hyderabad, Feb 21: Once again, the State Legislative Assembly was adjourned for the day on Tuesday without transacting any business.
After adjournment of the house at 9.06 am when the TDP, TRS and MIM members stalled the proceedings, Speaker Nadendla Manohar convened Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting in his chamber to remove the pandemonium in the House.
When the House met again at 12.40 pm, the TRS and MIM members rushed to the podium and disrupted the proceedings. While the TRS members raised slogans demanding withdrawal of the cases filed against Telangana students and introduction of Telangana resolution in the House, the MIM members insisted that the government withdraw rowdy sheets filed by police against “innocent” Muslim youths. The Telangana TDP members also rose on their feet and displayed placards demanding withdrawal of cases against the students of Telangana region.
Making an effort to bring the House into order, the Speaker requested the floor leaders to cooperate with the Chair for smooth functioning of the House and call back their members from the podium.
Intervening, Roads and Buildings Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao regretted that pandemonium continuing in the House on the fifth day of the budget session. Terming the Governor’s speech as a policy document of the State government, he opined that the House should discuss it and thank the Governor for addressing the joint session. He charged the Opposition parties with wasting the valuable time of the House. Indirectly referring to the demand of TRS members, he made it clear that the House belongs to all the regions and all sections of the people. The government has already expressed its willingness to take up discussion on any issue. The State government was committed to the assurances given by it regarding Telangana issue and withdrawal of rowdy sheets filed against innocent Muslim youth. Stating that the assurances given by the government on the floor of the House should have sanctity, the Speaker has directed Home Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy to speak on the matter.
Reminding that the government had assured the House that the cases filed against the students in Telangana and Seemandhra regions would be lifted in a phased manner, Sabita Indra Reddy said that the process of withdrawing the cases was going on. She also assured the MIM members that their demand would also be taken up for examination.
The Speaker directed the Home Minister to hold a meeting with MIM members on Friday on lifting of rowdy sheets filed against Muslim youth.
Dissatisfied with the Home Minister’s assurance, the TRS and MIM members continued slogan shouting and did not allow the House to transact business. As his appeals fell on the deaf ears, the Speaker adjoined the House to meet at 9 am on Wednesday.
