3 held for throwing ‘non-veg’ during Ganesh festivities in Hyd

Tension briefly gripped Madannapet during Ganesh festivities after non-vegetarian food material was allegedly thrown near a Ganesh pandal where an Annadanam programme was underway. Police detained three residents of a nearby 2BHK housing society following a complaint from the organisers. Local reports said a piece of chicken and other non-vegetarian food waste was found near the pandal, while police were investigating the circumstances behind the incident.

The three detained persons were identified by police as Mohammad Imran Qureshi, Arshiya Begum and Sameena. A protest was held at Chanchalguda Cross Roads, following which police increased security in the area and deployed additional forces at sensitive locations. Police appealed to residents not to believe or circulate unverified claims on social media and warned that action would be taken against those spreading rumours.

With Ganesh immersion scheduled for September 25, Hyderabad police are already maintaining heightened security across the city. Thousands of idols are expected to join the immersion procession, with large-scale police deployment planned to prevent any untoward incidents. The Madannapet episode has once again put the spotlight on the need for restraint and responsible behaviour during major religious celebrations.
