Dhurandhar 2 Struggles After Record Start

In a dramatic turn of events at the box office, Aditya Dhar's 'Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge' has witnessed a notable decline in its earnings, dipping below the Rs 10 crore mark on Day 21 after an unprecedented two-week run. As per preliminary estimates, the film garnered approximately Rs 7.90 crore, with a gross total of around Rs 9.46 crore, marking its lowest daily collection to date. Despite surpassing the Rs 1,000 crore net milestone in India and solidifying its place among the Top 10 Highest-Grossing Films of 2026, the trajectory of its success seems to have hit a plateau, raising questions about its sustainability amidst a competitive cinematic landscape.

'Dhurandhar 2' entered the box office fray with striking momentum, accumulating a staggering Rs 674.17 crore in its debut week, followed by Rs 263.65 crore in its second week. Now, as it navigates its third week, the total has reached approximately Rs 103.45 crore. However, a stark comparison with its predecessor, 'Dhurandhar,' reveals a concerning trend; the original film's Day 21 earnings soared to Rs 25 crore, and its third-week total was significantly higher at Rs 172 crore. This juxtaposition accentuates the challenges facing the sequel, as it struggles to replicate the blockbuster status of its forerunner.

Contextualizing the film's current performance requires an understanding of the broader box office dynamics. 'Dhurandhar 2' has achieved remarkable milestones, including becoming the highest-grossing Indian film in history with a net collection of Rs 1,041.27 crore in India, and a worldwide gross of Rs 1,653.67 crore. This achievement has positioned it at the forefront of the industry, yet it remains shy of surpassing the record set by 'Pushpa 2,' which boasts lifetime collections of Rs 1,234.10 crore net and Rs 1,471.10 crore gross. Additionally, the film's performance in overseas markets has been commendable, earning over Rs 400 crore and solidifying its status as the highest-grossing Indian film outside of India, excluding China.

As 'Dhurandhar 2' continues its theatrical journey, it faces increasing pressure from upcoming releases, notably Akshay Kumar's 'Bhoot Bangla,' set to debut on April 16. This impending competition could further complicate its efforts to sustain momentum in a rapidly evolving box office environment. Trade analysts remain skeptical about whether 'Dhurandhar 2' will eclipse the global totals of iconic films such as 'Dangal,' 'Baahubali 2,' and 'Pushpa 2,' as the industry braces for intense rivalries that could reshape the current box office landscape.
