International Cartel Linked to Hyderabad Arrests

In a significant law enforcement operation, Hyderabad police apprehended five individuals, including two foreign nationals, in a series of drug-related arrests that underscore the alarming reach of international drug trafficking networks. On Tuesday, the Rajendranagar and Miyapur police collaborated with the Hyderabad Narcotic Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) to seize a substantial cache of 160 grams of MDMA, valued at approximately ₹25 lakh, from the suspects. This crackdown reveals the intricate connections between local dealers and international drug suppliers, raising concerns about the city's role as a hub for narcotics distribution.

The first operation unfolded in the evening as police intercepted Yemeni national Al-Aqar Abdurabu Mohammed Abdurabu, 37, alongside his associate, Palestinian Hasan W A Hashem, 28, in Mailardevpally. Authorities recovered 150 grams of MDMA, a knife, and four mobile phones from the duo. Rajendranagar Deputy Commissioner of Police S. Srinivas reported that Abdurabu, living in India intermittently since 2008 on student visas, had established a supply line with an absconding Nigerian dealer in Bengaluru, illustrating the transnational dynamics at play in this illicit trade.

Abdurabu's criminal history reveals a troubling pattern; he has faced charges in six narcotics-related cases across Telangana and Karnataka since 2019, with a non-bailable warrant pending in one instance. His accomplice, Hashem, who returned to India in 2022 on a business visa following a pandemic hiatus, had previously been arrested in Bengaluru for a similar MDMA distribution case. Their partnership formed during a period of judicial custody, highlighting how incarcerated individuals can forge alliances that further entrench drug trafficking networks.

In a concurrent operation, Miyapur police, supported by the Madhapur Special Operations Team, apprehended three additional suspects—B. Hanumanthu, 27, B. Mahesh, 26, and K. Adarsh, 28—caught attempting to evade capture in their vehicle. Authorities seized 12.6 grams of MDMA concealed in a zip-lock pouch, alongside mobile phones and the car. The trio confessed to sourcing the narcotics from an unknown supplier in Bengaluru for resale in Hyderabad, revealing the pervasive nature of drug trafficking in the region. All five suspects have since been remanded into judicial custody, as the investigation into this expansive drug network continues to unfold.
