Dhanush's latest film 'Kara' has made a promising start at the box office. Directed by Vignesh Raja, the heist thriller raked in an impressive Rs 5.75 crore on its opening day across 4,172 shows, as reported by Sacnilk.
The Tamil version of the film performed even better, earning Rs 4.65 crore, while the Telugu-dubbed version also had a decent start with Rs 1.10 crore. Night shows saw the highest audience turnout, with over 35% occupancy, followed by strong footfall during morning and evening shows. With this strong opening, 'Kara' is anticipated to surpass the Rs 20 crore mark by the weekend.
The film, written by Vignesh Raja and Alfred Prakash, features Dhanush in the role of Karasaami aka Kara, a thief during the Gulf War of 1991, which led to a fuel crisis in Tamil Nadu, compelling him to fight for survival. A review of the film stated, 'For the longest time, Kara gets this balance right, but once the petty thief decides to take a turn to become something bigger, like a hero… the film sacrifices itself for the seemingly greater good.' The cast includes Mamitha Baiju as Selli, Jayaram as Muthu Selvan, KS Ravikumar as Kandhasaami, Suraj Venjaramoodu as Bharathan, Karunaas as Kasi Maayan, Sreeja Ravi as Dhanam, and Prithvi Pandiarajan as Murugesan. MS Bhaskar also has a role in the film.
