Singer Mangli lodges complaint against lawyer

Singer Mangli has lodged a police complaint against advocate Singapogu Subbu, accusing him of abuse and extortion, a day after he lodged a complaint against her for the alleged Rs 10 crore fraud in the name of microfinance.

Mangli, also known as Satyavathi Mudavath, along with her lawyer, visited Panjagutta Police Station on Sunday to lodge a complaint against Subbu. She alleged that he demanded Rs 10 lakh, and when she refused to give the money, he abused her and threatened to defame her on social media.

Subbu alleged that nearly 100 persons were allegedly induced to invest money with promises of high returns through film financing and related business activities. The investors claimed that neither the promised returns nor their original investments were repaid.

The advocate, who claims to be representing the investors, alleged that he was threatened when he questioned the accused about repayment.

Police said a case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including sections related to criminal intimidation and cheating.

The singer on Sunday denied the allegations made by Subbu. She vowed to fight what she called false allegations.

She broke down while talking to the media persons to deny the allegations. Stating that she worked hard to go to Bigg Boss and become famous, she said the advocate was harassing her by making false allegations.

She alleged that on March 22, Subbu met her, introduced himself as a lawyer and made inappropriate remarks. She claimed that he demanded Rs 10 lakh from her, saying he would remove certain videos related to her from YouTube, Instagram and other social media platforms.

Mangli alleged that when she refused to pay the amount, Subbu and his associates allegedly used abusive language and threatened to damage her reputation through social media platforms.

She urged the police to take strong action against the accused for criminal intimidation, extortion and harassment.
