Google's $15B Project in AP Set to Begin

Google is all set to kick off its ambitious data centre project in Andhra Pradesh, six months after the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the state government. The groundbreaking ceremony for the 1 GW capacity data centre hub will take place on April 28, with the presence of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and top Google executives including Thomas Kurian.

This massive project, involving a $15 billion investment, marks the largest single foreign direct investment in India. The data centre hub will encompass three campuses near Visakhapatnam, at Adavivaram village, Tarluvada village, and Rambilli. The land has been allocated to Raiden Infotech India Private Limited, Google's subsidiary, which is spearheading the project. The three data centres are expected to be operational by July 2028 and will require the installation of high-capacity submarine cables, cable landing stations, and telecommunications infrastructure.

Adani Infra (India) Limited is partnering with Raiden Infotech India for this endeavor, with the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) approving the land allotment for the data centre hub. Google's expansion into Andhra Pradesh signifies a significant milestone as it currently operates data centres in 11 countries and the Visakhapatnam cluster is anticipated to be Asia's largest.
