Konda Surekha Says Sorry to KTR?

Former minister and Congress MLA, Konda Surekha, has expressed regret for the personal remarks she had made against Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President, K.T. Rama Rao, two years ago.

Surekha, who was sacked from the Telangana Cabinet last month over certain remarks made by her daughter against Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, took to ‘X’ on Thursday to issue a clarification regarding personal remarks she had made about Rama Rao in 2024.

She stated that those comments were made in the context of the political situation at the time while criticising the Opposition. She said the comments were not intentional.

“I should not have made those baseless remarks. I had absolutely no malicious intent to cause pain to KTR or his family members, nor did I intend to damage their reputation,” she said.

“If my comments caused any hurt to him or his family, I express my regret and hereby withdraw those remarks,” added Surekha.

The minister had made the alleged defamatory statement on October 2, 2024 about K.T. Rama Rao also known as KTR, blaming him for the divorce between actors Naga Chaitanya and Samantha.

Naga Chaitanya’s father and popular actor Nagarjuna had filed a defamation case against the then minister, saying her remarks harmed the dignity and reputation of his family.

In November 2025, Nagarjuna withdrew the defamation case after the minister expressed regret over her statement.

The actor withdrew the case after Surekha took to ‘X’ to clarify that the statement she made was not intended to hurt Nagarjuna or his family members.

Though K.T. Rama Rao had issued a legal notice asking Surekha to retract her statement and apologise, she said she was standing by her comments about the BRS leader.

Following this, K.T. Rama Rao had initiated defamation proceedings against the then minister.

A city court in December last year had filed a Non-Bailable Warrant against Surekha.

After reviewing preliminary evidence submitted by the complainant, the court had observed that there is prima facie material to proceed under Section 356 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and corresponding procedural provisions under the BNS Sections 222, read with 223.
