Pulivendula Showdown: Jagan’s Warning

YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has issued a strong warning to the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), alleging that his party workers could face intimidation and electoral irregularities during the upcoming municipal elections. Declaring that he would personally visit Pulivendula on polling day, Jagan challenged those allegedly planning to resort to malpractice to face the political consequences. He said the elections would provide an opportunity for voters to demonstrate their support for those who had genuinely worked for them. His remarks come amid heightened political tensions in Andhra Pradesh, with rival parties trading allegations over election-related violence, intimidation and the conduct of local body polls.
Addressing YSRCP supporters, Jagan sought to reassure party workers that he would stand firmly behind them if they faced attacks or harassment. He credited their support for his rise to the Chief Minister's office and argued that the party's future success would depend on the commitment and determination of its grassroots cadre. Referring to what he described as “Jagan 2.0,” he emphasised that party workers would occupy a central place in the organisation's next phase. He urged supporters not to surrender their democratic rights out of fear and asserted that the YSRCP was confident of winning the next elections. Using particularly forceful language about Pulivendula, his political stronghold, Jagan called on workers to respond firmly to any alleged aggression and make their resistance heard across the state.
Jagan also directed his criticism at the police, reminding personnel that their responsibility was to uphold the law and protect citizens rather than serve the interests of individual political leaders. Invoking the three lions on the police insignia, he urged officers to remain committed to their constitutional and legal duties. He questioned the role of law enforcement if those entrusted with public protection were themselves accused of intimidation. The former Chief Minister added that arrests and criminal cases would not deter his party workers from standing up for their rights. Warning that any attack on a YSRCP worker would be treated as an attack on him personally, Jagan sought to project an image of solidarity with the party cadre. His remarks are likely to intensify the political confrontation between the YSRCP and the ruling TDP-led alliance as the municipal election battle gathers momentum.
