Supreme Court Relief for Dil Raju

Producer Dil Raju has received a major legal reprieve from the Supreme Court in the long-running copyright dispute surrounding Prabhas’ 2011 blockbuster Mr. Perfect. The apex court rejected writer Mummoodi Shyamala Rani’s plea seeking to revive the trial court proceedings against the producer. With the earlier stay protected, the trial court case will remain suspended, giving Dil Raju significant relief in the matter.

The dispute stems from Shyamala Rani’s allegation that the film’s storyline was based on her work and was used without her consent or proper credit. She had initiated legal proceedings against Dil Raju and others, alleging copyright infringement and related criminal violations. The matter subsequently moved through different courts, with Dil Raju seeking relief and the proceedings eventually being stayed.

Challenging the stay, Shyamala Rani approached the Supreme Court and requested that the trial proceedings be resumed, also citing her age and seeking an expedited hearing. However, the court declined to interfere with the existing order and dismissed her plea. The decision keeps the proceedings on hold and marks another favourable development for Dil Raju in the years-old copyright battle.
