T'gana assembly session to begin on Sep 7

The Telangana Legislative Assembly session will commence on September 7.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy informed this to MLAs during a meeting held at the Secretariat on Monday. The Chief Minister discussed development programmes in their Assembly constituencies and instructed legislators to complete pending land acquisition for irrigation projects expeditiously.

CM Revanth Reddy warned that projects would never be completed if land acquisition was delayed. He assured that the government would sanction funds for land acquisition, Relief and Rehabilitation (R&R), and forest clearances. He also directed legislators to focus more on constituency development.

Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, ministers Uttam Kumar Reddy, Tummala Nageswara Rao, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and Seethakka, along with some MPs and MLAs, attended the meeting.

There was no official word on the duration of the Assembly session or the issues to be discussed. However, as announced earlier by the Chief Minister, the session is likely to pass a resolution seeking to reduce the minimum age for contesting Assembly and Lok Sabha elections from 25 to 21 years.

The resolution will be sent to the Centre for consideration and possible introduction of a Bill in Parliament.

Last month, the Chief Minister had called for lowering the minimum age limit for contesting Assembly and Lok Sabha elections to enable youth to step into legislatures. He demanded an amendment to the relevant law to allow contesting for the Legislative Assembly and Lok Sabha at 21 years and for the Rajya Sabha at 25 years.

He stated that there is a need for the youth’s voice to be heard through the platforms of the Legislative Assembly, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

The Chief Minister had announced that a special session of the State Legislative Council and Assembly would be convened in the first week of August to pass a resolution for reducing the minimum age limit for contesting Assembly elections. However, he later deferred his plans.
