Trump Revives Birthright Citizenship Fight

US President Donald Trump is once again pushing to restrict birthright citizenship, despite a major legal challenge to his earlier attempt. His administration has introduced fresh executive measures aimed at limiting automatic citizenship for certain children born in the United States. The move revives one of Trump's most controversial immigration policies and is expected to face further scrutiny in the courts, particularly because birthright citizenship is rooted in the 14th Amendment.

The latest measures reportedly focus on children born in the US to parents linked to countries or organizations considered security threats, as well as certain foreign government representatives. The administration argues that existing citizenship rules can be misused and has been looking for alternative ways to tighten them after courts blocked earlier efforts. Trump has repeatedly maintained that the current system places an unfair burden on the country and has made ending what he calls automatic citizenship a key part of his immigration agenda.

Another major target is birth tourism, in which foreign nationals travel to the US on temporary visas primarily to give birth. Under the new approach, authorities could scrutinize the stated purpose of travel more closely, with applicants potentially facing visa consequences if officials determine that the real intention was to give birth in the US. The latest action is therefore being viewed as a broader attempt to tighten immigration enforcement, although its legal durability remains uncertain as the administration continues to test the limits of executive power.
