UoH Alumni Make Waves in Kerala's Political Landscape
In a significant triumph for the University of Hyderabad (UoH), alumni Roji M John and Rony K Baby have secured seats in the recently held Kerala Assembly Elections. John, a seasoned politician, was elected as the Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Angamaly, while Baby emerged victorious in Kanjirappally. Their electoral victories not only highlight personal achievements but underscore UoH's role in shaping influential leaders within the political arena.
Roji M John, a three-time MLA, attributes much of his success to the formative experiences he encountered at UoH. Reflecting on his academic journey, John noted, "It is at UoH where I got an opportunity to interact with students from different states, understand their culture and politics." His involvement in student politics, both at UoH and later at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), laid the groundwork for his political career, during which he served as the national president of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI). John's dedication to public service and democratic engagement has become a hallmark of his political identity.
The University of Hyderabad, known for its rigorous academic programs, especially in Political Science, has produced a cadre of leaders who have made notable contributions to Indian democracy. John’s and Baby's electoral successes serve as a testament to the university's legacy of fostering leadership skills among its students. The institution proudly reflects on the journey of its alumni, stating that these accomplishments bridge academic excellence with social responsibility, affirming the university's influence on democratic leadership across the nation.
Rony K Baby, who pursued his education at UoH from 1998 onwards, was initially elected to the assembly for the first time this year. His academic credentials include an MA in Political Science followed by an MPhil in the same field, underscoring his deep commitment to understanding governance and public policy. The recognition of UoH alumni in the political landscape is not merely an individual achievement, but a collective affirmation of the university's role in nurturing the leaders of tomorrow, further solidifying its position as a breeding ground for impactful political engagement.
