Vijay Makes PM Race Surprise!

Actor-turned-politician Joseph Vijay is rapidly expanding his political footprint beyond Tamil Nadu, with his popularity now reflecting in a nationwide opinion poll. The TVK chief, who launched his party just two years ago and went on to secure an unexpected electoral victory in the state, has emerged as a notable national figure. His growing appeal was highlighted in the latest India Today Mood of the Nation Survey, which placed him third among preferred choices for the Prime Minister’s post in 2029.

According to the survey, respondents were asked who they would prefer to see as India’s Prime Minister after the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. Vijay received 9.2% support, putting him ahead of several prominent political leaders and making him one of the most talked-about emerging contenders. Prime Minister Narendra Modi remained the clear frontrunner with 48.7%, followed by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi at 27.1%.

Vijay’s third-place ranking is particularly noteworthy given his relatively short political journey. His Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has already made a strong electoral impact in Tamil Nadu, giving the actor-turned-politician a platform to build a wider political narrative. The survey suggests that his transition from cinema to politics is beginning to translate into recognition beyond his home state.

The numbers could also add a new dimension to the national political landscape ahead of 2029. While Vijay still trails Modi and Rahul Gandhi by a considerable margin, securing nearly one in ten preferences at this stage is significant for a relatively new political leader. His position could become more closely watched as TVK expands its organisation and Vijay further defines his political agenda.
