Why Erravalli Has Become a KCR Flashpoint?

The political spotlight in Telangana has once again shifted to Erravalli, where revenue officials have completed a detailed survey of land surrounding former Chief Minister and BRS chief K. Chandrashekar Rao’s farmhouse. The exercise has drawn considerable attention because the land under scrutiny lies close to KCR’s agricultural property and has been at the centre of competing claims over ownership, government land and cultivation rights. Officials surveyed 388 acres in Survey No. 325, covering areas around Erravalli, Venkatapur and Varadarajpur.

The survey was initiated following concerns raised by the Telangana government over the status of land in the area. Officials used digital survey methods and worked on fixing boundaries and verifying existing land records. The exercise also involved collecting details from farmers who have been cultivating portions of the land for several decades. Reports indicate that more than 200 farmers were served notices or called for verification during the process, while officials gathered documents and details relating to possession and cultivation.

What has made the issue politically sensitive is the close proximity of the surveyed land to KCR’s farmhouse. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy had raised the issue of alleged encroachment of government land in Erravalli during an Assembly session, bringing the former chief minister’s property into the wider political debate. However, officials have so far maintained a distinction between the land being surveyed and KCR’s farmhouse itself. The first phase of the exercise was completed without officials entering the farmhouse or issuing a notice to KCR.

At the ground level, the survey has also triggered anxiety among local farmers. Several cultivators have argued that they have been in possession of the land for decades and fear that the government could take back land they depend on for their livelihoods. Some farmers have also maintained that the surveyed Survey No. 325 lands are separate from KCR’s property. At the same time, questions over village boundaries and the classification of the land have added another layer to the dispute, making the survey more complicated than a straightforward verification exercise.

The bigger question now is what happens after the survey report reaches the district administration and the government decides on the next course of action. Officials have prepared records and boundary details, while the portion directly involving KCR’s farmhouse is expected to be examined in a subsequent phase. For the Congress government, the issue has become part of its broader scrutiny of land records linked to the previous BRS regime. For the BRS, the repeated focus on KCR’s farmhouse is being viewed as a political issue. With the survey completed but several questions still open, Erravalli is likely to remain a politically charged flashpoint in Telangana.
