YSRCP:Rayalaseema Project Halt a ‘Historic Betrayal

The YSR Congress Party on Sunday launched a sharp attack on Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, accusing him of “betraying Rayalaseema” for political and personal gains. The allegations came a day after Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy claimed on the Assembly floor that pressure from Telangana forced Naidu to halt the Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Project. YSRCP leaders Sake Sailajanath, V. Vishweshwar Reddy and SV Mohan Reddy alleged a clear nexus between the two Chief Ministers, saying Naidu’s “Rayalaseema mask has fallen off” and that the stoppage of the project amounted to a death warrant for the drought-hit region.

Recalling that the Lift Irrigation Project was launched under former Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy with an outlay of ₹3,850 crore to secure drinking water and irrigation through the Pothireddypadu Head Regulator, the YSRCP said the coalition government abandoned it while Telangana continued its own projects unabated. The party warned that Karnataka’s Almatti dam height increase and Andhra Pradesh’s silence would further cripple key Rayalaseema projects, pushing the region into deeper distress. Demanding accountability, YSRCP called on TDP leaders from Rayalaseema to speak up or resign, and announced a mass agitation with farmers and citizens if the project is not immediately revived.
