Assembly Showdown: Congress Scrambles as KCR Returns

As the Telangana Assembly braces for a heated debate on irrigation and river water sharing, it is increasingly evident that the Congress Party is struggling to politically counter a resurgent Bharat Rashtra Samithi. With K. Chandrasekhar Rao back in action and leaders like K.T. Rama Rao and T. Harish Rao sharpening their attack, the ruling Congress appears more focused on preparing PowerPoint presentations than delivering visible outcomes on the ground. The return of KCR to the Assembly has clearly rattled the government, forcing Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and his team into a defensive mode rather than an agenda-setting role.

While Congress leaders insist they are ready to expose alleged failures of the previous BRS regime, public sentiment suggests growing impatience. Many citizens are questioning whether endless debates, counter-accusations, and historical blame games actually address Telangana’s present needs. The government’s emphasis on optics—meetings, presentations, and grand narratives—has not gone unnoticed, especially when basic issues like irrigation progress, farmer confidence, and fiscal discipline remain under scrutiny.

Adding to the unease is the controversy surrounding the Rising Telangana Summit, held outside Hyderabad in massive temporary tents. Critics argue that spending hundreds of crores of taxpayer money on short-lived structures reflects misplaced priorities, with many alleging that such events primarily benefit contractors rather than the state’s economy or people. As the Congress gears up to face BRS attacks inside the Assembly, it faces a bigger challenge outside it: convincing the public that governance, not just political firefighting, remains its top priority.
