Big Changes Likely in Telangana BJP?

As Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Modi 3.0 government prepares to complete two years in office this June, political circles in Delhi are abuzz with speculation over a major reshuffle in both the Union Cabinet and the Bharatiya Janata Party’s organizational structure. Reports suggest that significant changes may also be on the cards in the Telangana BJP unit. State BJP president Ramchander Rao’s recent visit to Delhi has sparked intense political discussions. He is believed to have met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and briefed him on the political situation in Telangana. Sources say senior BJP leaders held further discussions with him after the full Cabinet meeting chaired by Modi on Thursday.

With an eye on the upcoming Assembly elections, caste equations, and strengthening the party in Telangana, the BJP high command is reportedly considering allocating one more Union ministerial berth to the state. Currently, G. Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay Kumar are serving as Union ministers from Telangana. However, discussions surrounding the recent “Bandi Bhagirath” controversy and POCSO case allegations have reportedly cast doubts over Bandi Sanjay’s political future. Party insiders say the BJP leadership feels his influence and public appeal are not as strong as before. Concerned about the possible impact on the party’s image, some senior leaders are believed to have suggested removing him from the Cabinet and assigning him organizational responsibilities within the party instead.

Amid these developments, the name of Nizamabad MP Dharmapuri Arvind is reportedly being strongly considered for a Union Cabinet berth. At the same time, Malkajgiri MP Eatala Rajender is also said to be in the race for another ministerial position. Initially, there were discussions about shifting Kishan Reddy from the Cabinet to take charge of the state BJP unit. However, party leaders reportedly felt that removing two ministers at once could send negative signals to the public, leading to a decision to retain him for now. Nevertheless, there is speculation that his portfolio could change. Meanwhile, the BJP leadership is also said to be considering assigning key organizational responsibilities to Mahabubnagar MP D. K. Aruna as part of the broader restructuring plan.
