Big Twist! Vijay Divorce Case Delayed, Amicable Split Hinted

Amid intensifying political campaigning ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, the divorce proceedings involving actor-politician Vijay and his wife Sangeetha Vijay came up for hearing on Monday before a family welfare court in Chengalpattu.

The case, which has drawn considerable public attention due to Vijay’s rising political profile as the leader of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has now been deferred to June 15.

Earlier, the court had issued a summons directing Vijay to appear in person for the proceedings. However, following a fresh petition filed by the legal representatives of both parties, the hearing was deferred.

According to sources familiar with the developments, lawyers representing Vijay and Sangeetha informed the court that the couple had mutually agreed to separate. The petition reportedly stated that both parties have arrived at an amicable understanding regarding their decision to part ways, paving the way for a smoother legal process.

It is learnt that key aspects such as alimony arrangements and division of assets -- particularly those concerning the future security of their children -- have already been discussed between the two sides.

While specific financial details were not disclosed in court, the emphasis appears to be on a consensual and non-contentious settlement.

Taking note of the joint submission, the presiding judge accepted the request and adjourned the case to June 15 for further hearing.

The court also considered logistical constraints cited by the petitioners, including Vijay’s ongoing election commitments and related security concerns, which were presented as reasons for seeking additional time.

The development comes at a politically sensitive time, with Vijay actively engaged in campaign activities across Tamil Nadu ahead of the April 23 Assembly polls.

His dual role as a film star and emerging political leader has kept him in the spotlight, making the personal legal proceedings a subject of widespread media interest.

Although neither Vijay nor Sangeetha appeared in person, the proceedings indicate a move towards an uncontested divorce based on mutual consent. Legal experts note that such a settlement typically expedites the process, provided both parties continue to adhere to the agreed terms.

The case will now be taken up again in mid-June, by which time further clarity on the settlement is expected to emerge.
