Birthday Joy Ends in Tragedy: 4 Students Killed Near Hyderabad
Birthday celebrations turned fatal early Thursday when an SUV carrying five students rammed into a tree near Mirzapur in Mokila, on the outskirts of Hyderabad, killing four students on the spot and leaving another critically injured, police said.
The victims—Surya Teja (20), Sri Nikhil (20), Rohit (18) and Sumeet (20)—were returning to Hyderabad after celebrating Sumeet’s birthday. Three of them were BBA students at ICFAI Business School, Mokila, while Rohit studied at MGIT. Sumeet, who was driving the vehicle, lost control as the SUV hit the tree at high speed. Nakshatra (20), a third-year BBA student, sustained grievous injuries and is battling for life in hospital.
Police said the vehicle was badly mangled and are probing whether overspeeding or drunk driving led to the crash. The bodies were shifted to a government hospital in Chevella for post-mortem. The tragedy once again highlights growing concerns over late-night driving and celebratory outings around Hyderabad, despite intensified drunk-driving checks by police.
