India's First Bullet Train by August 15, 2027

Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Thursday said India is set to receive its first Bullet Train on August 15, 2027, marking a historic leap in the country’s transport infrastructure. “Buy a Bullet Train ticket on Independence Day 2027,” Vaishnaw said, signalling the start of high-speed rail travel in India.

The Bullet Train will operate on the 508-km Mumbai–Ahmedabad corridor, cutting travel time between the two cities to about two hours. The project is being executed by National High-Speed Rail Corporation Ltd., with over 85% of the route built on elevated viaducts and major civil works already completed.

Vaishnaw also highlighted the success of Vande Bharat Express, noting strong public demand across the country and announcing that Vande Bharat Sleeper trains will soon introduce a new standard for overnight journeys. The Bullet Train project, reviewed recently by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is being seen as a milestone in India’s push toward next-generation, world-class rail connectivity.
