NY Crackdown: 2,731 Drunk Driving Cases Booked in Greater Hyderabad

Police booked 2,731 drunk driving cases across Greater Hyderabad during New Year celebrations, following a massive special enforcement drive conducted on the night of December 31 and early hours of January 1.

Of the total cases, 1,198 were registered in Hyderabad Commissionerate, 928 in Cyberabad, and 605 in Rachakonda. The Hyderabad traffic police ran the operation from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. with the aim of ensuring road safety and preventing accidents during festivities.

Most offenders were two-wheeler riders (1,042 cases), followed by four-wheelers and other vehicles (105), and three-wheelers (51). Police said several motorists recorded dangerously high Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels, with 17 offenders testing above 300 mg/100 ml.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar credited strict enforcement and public cooperation for an incident-free New Year, reaffirming zero tolerance towards drunk driving and announcing that such drives will continue.
