Revanth Declares NTR a National Icon
Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy made a bold statement on Thursday, comparing Telugu cinema legend and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (NTR), to national icons such as BR Ambedkar and Indira Gandhi. During the unveiling of NTR’s statue at Maitrivanam junction in Ameerpet, Revanth emphasized NTR's transcendence of regional boundaries, asserting that NTR belongs to the entire Telugu community, irrespective of caste, religion, or region.
He linked the welfare agenda of the Congress government with the legacies of both Indira Gandhi and NTR, stating that their governance is a blend of Indiramma’s blessings and NTR’s inspiration. Revanth highlighted how several flagship welfare schemes of the present government drew inspiration from NTR’s initiatives, such as the 'Indiramma Indlu' housing scheme, the government’s fine rice distribution scheme, and the 'Indiramma sarees' initiative. He credited NTR with abolishing the ‘patel-patwari’ system and empowering Backward Classes politically.
In addition, he emphasized Indira Gandhi's efforts for the upliftment of SCs, STs, and minorities, while NTR ensured dignity and self-respect for weaker sections. In a political note, the chief minister remarked that even former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao began his political journey under NTR’s leadership.
