Revanth Calls for CBI Investigation Amidst Allegations of Corruption

In a bold assertion of accountability, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy announced his willingness to transfer the controversial phone tapping case and power purchase agreements to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). During a recent press interaction in Delhi, Reddy stated that if Union Minister G Kishan Reddy formally requests it, the state government would expedite the handover. He pointed fingers at Prabhakar Rao, the former chief of the State Intelligence Bureau, who has been in exile abroad for nearly 20 months, indicating that Rao's interrogation is pivotal before further legal action can be taken.

Reddy's comments come in the wake of significant political turbulence surrounding the Kaleshwaram project, which has faced allegations of corruption and mismanagement. The Chief Minister called on the central government to address the pending request for a CBI investigation into the project, emphasizing the need for transparency. He characterized the situation surrounding the project as dire, arguing against claims that only a few pillars of the Kaleshwaram infrastructure collapsed, suggesting instead that the implications of failure could be far more extensive, akin to an explosive disaster.

The historical context of these allegations cannot be overlooked, as the Kaleshwaram project has been a focal point of contention since its inception. The project, which aimed to enhance irrigation and water supply in Telangana, has attracted scrutiny amidst accusations of inflated costs and inadequate oversight. The Telangana High Court has also taken note of the phone tapping case, which emerged as a significant concern after the state government transitioned, leading to the destruction of key evidence, including computers and hard drives from the Intelligence Bureau.

In addition to these investigations, Reddy is advocating for legislative accountability, pledging to present all relevant documentation concerning the Singareni coal fields in the assembly. He has openly challenged Union Minister Kishan Reddy to justify the lack of a CBI probe into these matters, questioning the rationale behind the increased debt incurred under the previous administration. As Telangana navigates these complex issues, Reddy has also expressed his ambitious vision for the state, announcing plans for a bullet train hub while asserting his dominant position in the political landscape, stating that he remains 'both the king and the minister' of Telangana.
