Ban SM for Kids!

Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha, along with husband Zaheer Iqbal, sparked an important conversation at Mumbai’s MET College — the role of social media in a child’s life. Speaking thoughtfully, Sonakshi praised Australia’s recent decision to ban social media for kids under 16 and said India too should reflect on how early exposure is affecting children’s emotional and mental growth. Her stance wasn’t about restriction, but responsibility. “Until a child understands right and wrong, they shouldn’t be on social media,” she said — a sentiment many parents silently relate to today.

Zaheer added a balanced perspective, saying that while banning may not always be the only answer, controlled access can go a long way in protecting young minds. He shared how kids in his family use gadgets only under supervision — a simple, practical approach that many Indian households resonate with. Together, the couple highlighted the real issue: not just phones or apps, but the need for mindful parenting in a digital-first world.

At a time when every child knows how to swipe before they can talk, Sonakshi and Zaheer’s message feels refreshing — and necessary. They stressed that children need time to grow, explore, and understand life without the pressure of likes, filters, or online noise. Their voices added weight to a growing nationwide discussion: India doesn’t just need rules… it needs awareness, patience, and a community that prioritises children over screens.
