Emansu Yadav, a final-year electrical and electronics student at SRM Engineering College, sustained catastrophic injuries to his chest and arms, dying instantly when the ordnance detonated on Monday evening. The trek, undertaken by a group of six students without prior authorization, has raised serious concerns about safety practices and awareness in areas adjacent to military training grounds.

The group, which included students from various states, had reached a hilltop when they stumbled upon the suspicious iron object, which they believed to be unexploded ordnance. Four other students were injured in the blast, with one, Vishal Venugopal, suffering severe damage to his left hand. The others—Aryan Sharma, Krishna Siraj Mahajan, and Nishkas Niraj—also sustained injuries, while another student, Virat Sanjay Kumar, narrowly escaped harm. The injured have been transported to SRM Hospital in Potheri for urgent medical care.
