Salim Merchant gets trolled for visiting Mandir

Singer-composer Salim Merchant’s visit to Assam’s famous Kamakhya Temple has sparked a debate on social media. Salim shared pictures from his visit to the Guwahati temple, where he was seen with folded hands after seeking blessings. While many fans welcomed the spiritual moment, a section of social media users questioned his religious beliefs.

Salim shared the pictures with the caption, “Shakti ke charanon mein, Om Aim Hreem Kleem Kamakhye Namah.” The post received plenty of supportive comments, including prayers and folded-hands emojis, but some users criticised him for visiting the Hindu temple and expressed their disagreement with his public display of devotion. The reactions quickly turned the post into a discussion about faith and personal beliefs.

This is not the first time Salim’s spiritual practices have attracted attention. In March 2026, he spoke about offering prayers to Lord Shiva on Mondays while also observing Jummah prayers on Fridays, saying that he respects both religions and that his connection with God and music is difficult to express in words. Professionally, Salim is one half of the popular Salim-Sulaiman composer duo with his brother Sulaiman Merchant. The duo has delivered music for films including Chak De! India, Fashion, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and Band Baaja Baaraat.
